The not-so-local organising committee is based in Melbourne, with the help of Jacqui Furler on the ground in Canberra. The LOC with the support of the executive and Scientific and Conference Committee plans to continue with some of the new and exciting ideas initiated at the Perth meeting, including running concurrent sessions and workshops.

The theme for next years meeting will be COPD and we are pleased to announce that Professor Paul Enright has accepted our invitation to be our international guest speaker. Professor Enright was heavily involved in the Lung Health Study and Cardiovascular Health Study and has published many articles, most of which are related to the measurement of ventilatory function. He has particular expertise with quality assurance issues in large-scale trials and he has been involved in the recent ATS/ERS Spirometry recommendations update. We are sure that Professor Enright along with our local guest speakers will provide us with lots of food for thought.

As well as the guest presenters, the ASM also provides the opportunity for ANZSRS members to present their original research. Once again the abstracts for next year's meeting will be published as a supplement in Respirology, which will make the abstract closing date earlier rather than later. This means that people need to be already thinking about their abstracts.
