On behalf of the Local Organising Committee I am delighted to invite scientists, physicians and allied health professionals working in the field of respiratory science to the 2007 Australian and New Zealand Society of Respiratory Science annual scientific meeting being held in Auckland, New Zealand.
The focus of the 2007 annual scientific meeting is the Lung in Extreme Environments and the organising committee have put together a who's who of national and international speakers covering this topic, including microgravity, hypo- and hyper-baric conditions, dive medicine, hot and cold environments, the lung in the ICU and the first breath. The local organising committee is to be commended for putting together a diverse program that will enhance all who attend. In particular, we would like to extend a warm welcome to our invited overseas speaker Professor Kim Prisk.
In 2007 for the first time the ANZSRS conference will extend to a third day and offer delegates a variety of additional topics. The educational workshops continue with this year's topics being the CRFS credential and Research in the Laboratory - "How can it be done". The application of clinical based research in laboratory practices is essential and this workshop will focus on providing participants with a basic background in identifying a research question and planning the project. Following the workshops, ANZSRS and TSANZ are combining to provide a session on advances in lung imaging and modelling, and a DLCO Physiology Masterclass.. I would encourage all delegates to ensure they extend their meeting to the Monday afternoon to attend this new session in the ANZSRS conference.
The interaction between respiratory scientists and industry is a critical aspect of our professional lives. Industry support is a key component to the annual scientific meeting. I encourage every delegate to return that support and spend time at all of the trade exhibits. The trade exhibit provides you with an ideal opportunity to take advantage of the trade representatives and quiz them about their wares and services. It also provides an opportunity for you to see and use the latest products and software.
I look forward to seeing old friends and colleagues and meeting new members to our Society in Auckland in 2007. Once again I invite all those working in the field of respiratory science to make the trip to Auckland and participate and share the scientific and educational activities on offer.
