Invitation to the Annual Scientific Meeting
On behalf of the Local Organising Committee, I am pleased to invite all health professionals with interests in respiratory science to attend the 2010 Annual Scientific Meeting of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Respiratory Science.

2010 marks the 30th Annual Scientific Meeting of the ANZSRS with the Local Organising Committee carefully compiling a program that looks back at the history of respiratory science and celebrates past achievements of the Society, but also looks to the future and ponder what challenges await us. The program will look at the past, present and future and cover such varied topics as the development in the recording of lung function measurements; the use of exhaled breath biomarkers; and a "clinical controversies" session on the pre-operative assessment using the cardio-pulmonary exercise test, or the clinical utility of expired NO.

We are pleased to welcome our international speaker, Dr Martin Miller and our distinguished national speakers, Dr Deborah Yates, Dr Paul Older, Dr Peter Franklin, Ms Helen Petsky, Dr Christine McDonald, Dr Richard Beasley, Mr John Serginson and Dr Hiran Selvadurai. We would also like to acknowledge the significant contribution of our own members including: Dr Sandra Anderson, Mr Paul Guy, Ms Brigitte Borg, Sally Young and Mr Danny Brazzale.

The 2010 meeting will again include a shared plenary session with the TSANZ, allowing members to access presentations by TSANZ invited speakers. This year includes presentations by Professor Stephen Holgate and Dr Peter Sly, and will also highlight Sandy Anderson's extensive contribution to both societies. The joint cooperation between the ANZSRS and TSANZ continues with the popular shared Masterclass session - this year with a focus on exercise testing.

The Local Organising Committee is also thrilled to announce an Oxygen Symposium which will form part of the ANZSRS ASM. The symposium will cover a number of issues including the physiology of oxygen transport, current guidelines for the provision of domiciliary oxygen, associated costs and other patient issues. Delegates will also be able to ponder the ethical dilemmas of research, or work towards their CRFS credential by attending one of the workshops on offer.

The Annual Scientific Meeting will also provide ample time to take in emerging technologies in the field of respiratory science through liaison with our industry colleagues at the trade exhibition. I personally thank all members of the trade for their ongoing support of the ANZSRS and I encourage all delegates to visit the trade exhibit and engage with representatives about their products and services.

Queensland - beautiful one day, perfect the next. A great place for the ANZSRS Annual Scientific Meeting, and with a social program to match. The Welcome Reception will take in the beautiful Riverside Room at the Brisbane Convention Centre. On Saturday evening it's time to let the hair down and celebrate our 30th ASM at the Conference Dinner. Shuttle buses will deliver delegates to Victoria Park overlooking Brisbane for a sumptuous meal followed by a 30th birthday party - so bring the dancing shoes!

I look forward to your company in Brisbane as we open the door to the next 30 years of the ANZSRS.
